Outfit of the Night.. Cocktails and Champagne..

Saturday night is always fun time night! I haven't been out in a proper social situation in nearly six months, so this was rather exciting, getting to doll myself up and paint the town red. It's always fun to forget about your troubles and worries for a night and just enjoy good company and even better cocktails..

So the night started in the afternoon. My bestest friends from university had trekked across the country to visit me and had arrived the night before, where we had shared catch up stories and nibbles. So we had spent all day baking cookies, gossiping and nail painting (you know how girls do), and before we knew it four o'clock arrived and we had to start getting ready. I know it seems early but we were going out for a meal at seven and five girls take quite a while to get ready!

So we rushed around and managed to get ourselves presentable for 6.25pm, five minutes before the taxi was due so we had time to pose for a few photies. Luckily we'd all decided to go for sophisticated chic, with blazers and tights to stay warm as it had been snowing earlier that day. So we enjoyed a merry meal and then went to many a cocktail bar. We all felt very grown up, we are 23 now not 18, and felt all SATC with our cocktails and boy gossip.

The outfit I decided to wear was a dress from New Look that I got for my holibobs, which was in the sale for £7. I wore my favourite Red Herring wedges which I got for £28 and some of Primark's finest standard black tights.

Interview day vs snow day

So I have an interview today for a supervisor position at Jeff Banks clothing store.. I've worked in retail for the last 7 years of my life but never worked somewhere I would be judged on my appearance.. (I know people say you aren't buy you totally are)

I was in such a tiz over what to wear.. Do I go über formal in a blouse and trousers or do I go for something more casual?

In the end I decided to mix the two, which resulted in my outfit!!! Wish me luck!! And follow my twitter page for how I got on @thebiggirluk :)

What I'm wearing -
*dress - Primark £13
*belt - Primark £1
*shoes - New Look (many moons ago) £14.99
*scarf - New Look £7.99
*blazer - Primark £16.00 (not in photos)

Stand Up To Cancer

Current statistics show that 1 in 3 people are affected by cancer. This is such a shocking fact, as it means that each and every one of us will know at least one person who is affected by cancer.

I have personally been affected as in 1998 my Mam was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a 8 year old girl, being told that your Mam is seriously ill is life changing. You go from being a care free child to a woman in a matter of days. I had known my Mam's best friend had passed from cancer, so I was so terrified about what could happen. When my Mam was in hospital, I would dream that a big dog called Cancer would come and attack my Mam. I would hear my Mam hide upstairs because she didn't want me and my brother to see her be sick or when her hair began to fall out. I was extremely lucky and fortunate enough for my Mam to recover and has been clean for over 10 years, but I lost nearly three years when she was suffering. However I understand that not everyone can be so lucky. Not only does the Cancer Research organisation help fund work into finding a cure for cancer, it also supports the families who are affected and are able to tell you information that your parent, spouse, or friend are unable to tell you because it is too hard.

Tonight on Channel 4, they have organised a night of entertainment in aide of the Stand up to cancer campaign (more information can be found here and here). It's very similar to Comic Relief and Children in Need (which is also coming soon). Alan Carr will front a very special chat show with the green room from heaven whilst Davina hosts a high stakes version of The Million Pound Drop, aiming to raise big for Stand Up To Cancer. And throughout the night, Dr. Christian will be on hand to explain the science behind incredible new cancer trials and meet those whose lives depend on breakthroughs in cancer research.

I urge everyone to donate anything they can towards Stand Up To Cancer as everyone deserves a chance, or even donate to your chosen charity. Together we can fight and together we can stand up to cancer.

Positivity..

On Wednesday I found out I had failed my Master's. I only failed by a few marks on my dissertation and since then I have been hysterical. It felt like the end of the world. However, after two days I've finally come to the realisation that the world hasn't ended. I can resubmit it and hopefully pass next year.

Therefore it got me thinking, about how some smaller stuff in the long run can be seen as such a big deal when it first happens. I've always prided myself on being a positive thinker, and classed myself as an eternal optimist. but lately, I think I've fallen off the wagon and allowed myself to be bogged down by everyday negativity. So in an effort to become positive again, I thought I'd share some positive quotes and pictures that might inspire everyone to be a bit more positive about one thing every single day :)

One of my best friends says 'You are never fully dressed without a smile'. So true.

Also, for more check out Sprinkle of Glitter's positive post here, which inspired me in turn to share this stuff with you guys.

Do you guys have any inspirational quotes that cheer you up on a rainy day??

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint..

So as you all know I love my nail polishes, so when I saw my local Superdrug had the new Gelly polishes from Barry M, I had to snap them up!!!

I got it in colour Blueberry, I did fancy a couple of the others but already have similar shades and didn't wanna buy them in case they were a bit naff.

I wouldn't say that they look extremely shiny as I expected, but they do look like you've applied a top coat when you haven't. As with all my Barry M polishes, I found it went on well and only needed two coats! Will more than likely grab a couple more of these when I have chance (and the money) xxxxx
